Introduction to the Unit

Introducing the Unit

If your group follows liturgical colours, try and keep in rhythm with the colour that your church is using each week. The rule of thumb is that the season changes on the Sunday between 28 January and 3 February and the colour changes then from white/gold to green.

It’s time to get ready [again]!

This time, it’s time to get ready for Jesus the grown-up.

To help us get ready,

Week 1:

. . . we need to meet a man called John the Baptist.

Week 2:

. . . can anyone remember who we met last week?

If necessary: John the . . . Baptist

Week 1:

Hands on tummy:

Even when John was still in his mummy’s tummy,

God knew that John would have a special job:

to get the world ready for Jesus!

Let’s stand up and be John the Baptist together.

Lead the children in standing.

John wore clothes made from camel hair!

Let’s put our camel-hair coat on!

Lead the children in putting on a coat and scratching.

It’s very itchy!

John’s job was to get the world ready for God!

John called out,

‘Get ready for God!’ Cup hands around mouth

After 3, let’s shout, ‘Get ready for God!’

1, 2, 3 . . . Get ready for God! Cup hands around mouth

Look around I’m not sure anyone heard that.

Let’s try that again even louder.

1, 2, 3 . . . Get ready for God! Cup hands around mouth

Move straight into your choice of Gathering Song.
